Recruiter vs. Direct – What’s best?
18th August 2020
Fair question – and one that can be argued for both sides.
If you decide to go through a recruiter chose one that you feel comfortable working with.
– Check that they are reputable, have they been referred to you by someone that you trust?
– Are they specialists within your space?
– Do they have success stories that they can share whilst giving you the confidence that they have your best interests at heart?
If they do, then I would go with an external 3rd party recruiter.
Any decent recruiter should be able to offer up impartial advice, market insights, guide and coach you through the application process and negotiate effectively on your behalf.
In my opinion applying direct to an open position is less likely to result in success given the current market conditions. Beating the ATS is the first hurdle.
A reputable recruiter should have direct line contact and be able to work hand in hand with the client to help craft the role given the market conditions and talent available.
If you have had a great experience with a recruiter, I’d love to hear about it. Equally if you have had a bad experience, I’d be keen to understand what happened.
What’s your opinion; recruiter or direct?
