MCG’s Senior Consultant, Amanda Goodhew interviews Ben Knight, Executive Creative Director at Geometry Global regarding his views on the agency life between Dubai and London.
Ben, you’ve been in the region 10+ years. What was the biggest difference between Dubai and London agency life when you arrived?
The biggest difference between Dubai and London agency life has to be the cultural diversity of the people. So much can be lost in translation and it takes a while to adjust but eventually becomes one of the most rewarding aspects of working in a place like Dubai.
As a creative what are you most proud of…. thus far?
I am most proud of what we, as an agency, have managed to achieve. In a short space of time we have become the most creatively awarded agency in our global network, had recognition at the worlds most respected industry award shows and have built one of the best creative agencies I have had the pleasure to work at.
What has been the biggest change you’ve witnessed in the industry over the past 10 years?
I would say it is more a surprise than change. In the past 10 years I am so surprised at how fast our region has caught up to, what we call, ‘The Best in the West’ Our region competes at the highest level, it produces thought provoking work and is no longer seen as a desert of creativity but more of an oasis. I am constantly amazed at how many people now chose to work in the region from all parts of the world, and the pull does not come from salary anymore.
What makes you the most excited about working in Dubai in 2017?
2017 has started as a cautious and challenging year for us all. Who knows what it brings? One thing is for sure though, Dubai is a place that makes things happen. If you go for it and give it your all, this year could be surprisingly fruitful.
